L47 Mango Pleco

The L47 Mango Pleco, also known as Baryancistrus sp. (L047), is a striking and sought-after species of plecostomus. Here’s a brief overview:

Appearance

  • Coloration: The Mango Pleco has a dark body, typically black or dark brown, adorned with vibrant orange to yellow highlights on its fins. This coloration gives it its "Mango" name.
  • Size: It can grow up to 10-12 inches (25-30 cm) in length when fully mature.
  • Shape: Like other plecos, it has a sucker mouth and a broad, flat body.

Habitat

  • Native Range: Found in the Rio Xingu in Brazil, part of the Amazon River basin.
  • Environment: Prefers fast-moving, oxygen-rich waters with rocky substrates.

Tank Requirements

  • Tank Size: A minimum of 75 gallons is recommended due to its size.
  • Water Parameters:
    • Temperature: 78–86°F (26–30°C)
    • pH: 6.5–7.5
    • Hardness: Soft to moderately hard water.
  • Substrate: Fine sand or smooth gravel with plenty of hiding spots using driftwood, caves, and rocks.

    • Vegetables: Zucchini, cucumber, spinach, and peas.
    • Prepared Foods: Algae wafers and spirulina-based foods.
    • Protein: Occasional treats of bloodworms or shrimp.
