GOBY (Stiphdon/Sicyopus)
Sicyopus/Stiphodon is a genus of freshwater gobies belonging to the family Gobiidae. These fish are primarily found in fast-flowing streams and rivers in tropical and subtropical regions, especially on islands in the Indo-Pacific area. They are well-adapted to these environments, with some species capable of clinging to rocks and climbing waterfalls due to their fused pelvic fins, which form a suction cup.
Key Characteristics:
Habitat: Sicyopus species are often found in clear, fast-moving streams with rocky substrates.
Diet: They primarily feed on small invertebrates and algae.
Reproduction: Many species exhibit amphidromous life cycles, meaning their larvae drift to the sea after hatching, develop there, and then migrate back to freshwater to mature and reproduce.
Physical Features: These fish are typically small, slender, and well-camouflaged to blend into their surroundings.
