APT Fix is a popular algae treatment solution commonly used in aquariums, particularly to control and eliminate nuisance algae such as black beard algae (BBA), green spot algae, and hair algae. It is a proprietary product by 2Hr Aquarist, formulated to work effectively in both planted and non-planted tanks.
Key Features of APT Fix:
-
Algae Targeting: It is highly effective against a wide range of algae without harming plants or fish (when used correctly).
-
Safe for Aquarium Life: Does not harm beneficial bacteria, shrimps, or fish when used as per recommended dosage.
-
Dual Use:
- Spot Treatment: Applied directly to algae for quick results.
- Whole Tank Dosage: Added to the tank water to gradually control algae over time.
How to Use APT Fix
Spot Treatment:
- Turn off your filter and flow system temporarily.
- Using a syringe or pipette, apply the product directly to the affected areas (e.g., on black beard algae).
- Leave it for about 15-30 minutes before turning the filter back on.
- Repeat daily or every alternate day until algae clears.
Whole Tank Treatment:
- Dose 1 ml per 10 liters (2.5 gallons) of tank water daily.
- Continue daily dosing for 1-2 weeks or until algae issues are under control.
Tips for Effective Algae Control:
-
Maintain Proper Balance: Algae outbreaks are often caused by imbalance in light, nutrients, or CO₂. Ensure you're providing appropriate light duration and intensity for your plants, along with consistent fertilization.
-
Regular Water Changes: Remove excess nutrients that may fuel algae growth.
-
Manual Removal: Before treating, manually remove as much algae as possible to reduce the workload on APT Fix.
-
Avoid Overfeeding: Excess food decomposes and can promote algae growth.
