The build process
For this build, a long-time client approached us requesting a serene 4-foot tank to serve as an oasis within their office environment. They entrusted us with creative freedom to bring the aquarium to life, giving us the opportunity to showcase both our artistic vision and technical expertise.
Selecting the perfect plants
We began by selecting key focal plants that would define the aquarium’s character. These weren’t just aesthetic choices, we specifically chose large, nutrient hungry species that would help manage the water column during the critical cycling phase. This strategic selection ensures the aquarium can establish its biological balance while minimizing the algae blooms that often appear during cycling. For this, we chose the Red Tiger Lotus.
Perfecting the client's look
To achieve the natural, rugged underwater look the client wanted, we created a custom false wall backing instead of using standard solutions like Oyama paper or back-lighting. This added depth and authenticity to the overall design.
Technical Specifications
- Dual Aquael Hypermax 4500: This high-capacity filtration system requires minimal maintenance while keeping the water crystal clear and algae-free.
- Dual Chihiros Vivid 2 Lighting: One of the most powerful lighting options available, ensuring light reaches all the way to the aquarium floor for lush carpet plants throughout.
- Automated Systems: We installed automated feeding, CO₂ and dosing systems to provide a truly hands-off experience for our client.
Maintenance
With the robust filtration and automation in place, our experienced maintenance team only needs to visit once a month. During these visits, we trim plants and make adjustments to ensure the aquarium continues to thrive and evolve with the client's needs.
