The dense, branching growth of Potamogeton gayi makes it suitable for both background and solitary groups in the aquarium.

It is an upright stem-plant but it makes runners like Vallisneria and the stem also branches willingly after trimming.

Leaves are 2-5 mm wide and 5-7 cm long. In good light conditions, the newest leaves are orange, turning to olive green over time. Use it to create a great background for other plants.
